BIO:  Cooper would do better as an only dog because he wants to be with his people.

Cooper was an owner surrender from Southern Alabama. He had belonged to someone who could no longer care for him because she had too many dogs. Sadly, when we tested him, he was heartworm positive, so he will not be available for adoption until the end of October.

Cooper is starved for attention and loves to be right next to you, covered up with his favorite blanket. We know that he is terrified of newspapers, so we know someone used those on him quite a bit. He will bark when other dogs bark but does not start the barking. He goes in his crate willingly when it’s time for bed, feeding time, or when you have to leave for a bit. He really is a great dog, and we want him to have a much better home than what he did the first 7 years of his life. Are you prepared to give that to him?

Our must-haves for sweet Cooper include:

• A fenced yard
• wants to be a lap dog
• Someone who can be home with him a lot of the time
• No apartments, high-rises, or anything with shared walls due to possible barking and disturbing the neighbors

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. 

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
