BIO:  Zoey is a beautiful chocolate (with caramel markings) long-haired dachshund who came to the rescue after her owner had health issues and could not care for her any longer. She is absolutely the sweetest dog ever and will make a wonderful pet!

This girl loves to be around people and does well with children over 11 years. She loves to be pet, get belly rubs, and have her ears scratched. She is very housebroken (she will let you know when she needs to go out) and walks well on a leash. Zoey knows her name and will promptly come when called. She gets along well with other dogs, even those she meets while we are out walking. She needs a fenced yard as she loves to run, and since her recent weight loss, she can literally “run like the wind”.

Zoey is a “tweenie” dachshund or one whose size is between the standard and miniature size. She is on Metabolic food for weight loss and has lost almost 4 pounds. She is so much more active every day as she continues to lose weight. She runs all over the back yard barking at a squirrel or two from time to time. She loves green beans or broccoli as a treat and will happily eat them right from the can or cooked fresh ones.

Miss Zoey is such a happy girl! She does not just wag her tail; she wags her whole body! She really needs someone who will give her the love and attention she deserves.

Our must-haves for this little lady include:

  • A fenced yard and maybe a doggie door
  • No apartments, high-rises, condos, or duplexes
  • Someone who will diligently continue her weight loss journey by keeping her on her Metabolic food and a strict exercise regimen
  • A home with another young, small dog for her to play with

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.
