BIO:  Flopsy’s greatest wish is that he be adopted and get a better name!  Flopsy came from a crowded shelter in Ohio.  He is a beautiful boy with a shiny flowing coat and sweet smiling face.  He seems to have had some scary experiences in his past so he is a little skittish.  He will run away if he is approached too quickly.  If you allow him to come to you he is a sweet and friendly boy.  He is starting to settle in to his foster home and comes eagerly when it’s time to go out for a walk or eat dinner.  Flopsy loves being with other dogs and follows their lead when it’s time to play or get petted.  There are no cats in his foster home, but when the others want to chase the neighborhood cats while we are walking he doesn’t even seem to notice them.  He walks well on a leash and enjoys going for strolls.  Flopsy is somewhat housebroken, but does best when he can be taken out on a schedule.  Because of his fearfulness he has not been crated.  He would probably do best in a home without small children.  His new owner will just have to be patient and give him time to realize that he has nothing to worry about.  If you have that patience you will be rewarded with a handsome loving companion.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $25 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application.

More about Flopsy

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
