BIO: Baker is a breeder release from Arkansas. He was very scared when he first came to us but after almost two months, while he is still timid, he will let the lady of the house pick him up though he’s still not sure of the man of the house. He loves being a pet but still is just not quite sure of all that’s expected of him or if he should trust. We need someone with LOTS of patience and breeder dog experience where the dog has not been socialized.
Our must-haves for precious Baker include:
- A fenced yard
- No apartments, high-rises, or condos
- Another socialized, small adult dog for him to learn from and pal around with
- Someone who is home a lot, works from home, or is newly retired
He loves to follow his foster mom from room to room and will patiently sleep in a doggie bed until she is done in whatever room she’s in, then come out with her to the next room she’s gone to. He’ll be your little golden shadow. He loves to lay in his foster mom’s lap and he has just the gentlest of souls.
Please do not ask us to make exceptions to the “must-haves”, these are for his welfare and to find him the home that he needs. While he may be beautiful, you must also be willing to work with him to teach him to be the pet he should be and was always meant to be. You won’t regret it! He’ll give you many years of absolute love and loyalty!
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
