PUPPYMILL SURVIVOR

Baylee was rescued from a horrible puppy mill situation and is learning to enjoy her freedom and simply be a pet—not a breeder.  She was considered “property” and  produced litter after litter of puppies in her  former life.  She had puppies about 6 weeks ago and her coat is still a little thin and dull from not having good nutrition. She is eating well now and starting to look healthy and get her girlish figure back, but it will take a little time and some TLC.  She has just been spayed and had her teeth cleaned and is starting to feel a lot better. She was enjoying laying in the sunshine the day her foster mom took her pictures---what a treat!

To have been caged up all her life, she is fairly well socialized and enjoys being around people. She is a little afraid of squeaky toys and is not sure why her foster brother thinks it's fun to chase such a noisy thing. Otherwise, she's a happy, gentle girl and is doing well with her potty training. She is currently bunking with another puppy mill girl and likes having a crate mate.  Baylee is gentle and submissive and would enjoy a friend, male or female, that would be kind to her and make her feel welcome and help her learn the ropes. She hasn't been exposed to big dogs, cats, or kids, but she should do well with proper introductions.  Older children would be fine with her as long as they are respectful and kind and know to keep gates and doors closed where she will always be safe.  Baylee has shown no signs of aggression with people or other dogs nor is she treat or food possessive. She is a polite lady and just happy to be in the house where it's dry and cool and her people are near. Baylee is awfully fond of her new status as “pet” and loves to sit in laps and give kisses.  She is still learning that it is OK to take a treat from your hand---that's something totally new to her ! Baylee needs some work to learn to walk well on a leash, but she's learning to enjoy the freedom of walks and exploring the big world outside of a crate.

Baylee is ready for a forever home that will love her unconditionally for the rest of her life. Baylee would love to be the apple of your eye, the center of your attention, the love of your life. Please consider giving Baylee the forever home where she can enjoy this new stage in her life!  Feel free to email her foster mom with questions or request more pictures.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
