*** Sawyer would make a great agility dog, he's smart, food motivated, and could pick up on hand signals quickly. If you're looking for an agility dog this is your man!!***

BIO UPDATE (8/18/2022):  Sawyer is the most playful pup ever! He is a ball of energy who loves to play fetch and loves to play in the water hose when his foster mom pulls it out daily. However, he also knows how to chill and just lie with you when you want to take a rest. Sawyer loves food and treats, which has helped so much with his training. He also loves his ears and especially his ribs scratched, which we use as a “good job” when we do not have treats. His favorite toy is his Kong or a good bone and he loves to play with his foster brother Leo, a large tabby cat.

Sawyer loves to play but when it’s bedtime he loves to burrow up next to you. He will pick up on your routine fast and pick up on his feeding schedule even faster. Sawyer is SO smart! He loves to be outside to run, play, swim, and explore. All he wants is to be loved and spoiled and then loved some more. Sawyer does not do well with big dogs. Maybe he can adjust to a larger pup if the big dog is introduced as a small puppy, and he is given time to adapt to his new friend. Sawyer loves to jump but we are working on that. This is why agility training would probably benefit him. He is currently in obedience training, and he is doing great so far! He is learning all the hand signals and when it is appropriate to jump and gaining great socialization skills. He is also working on not pulling when he walks on the leash. Once again, Sawyer is so smart and fun!

We have not found anything to hurt his feelings or that makes him sad. When we leave the house, he willingly goes into his kennel with a treat and his Kong, and he is totally fine until you get back. He is the sweetest and best boy ever! An active family or one with another young dog for a playmate would probably be great for him. He travels SO well and loves the outdoors. Anyone who is lucky enough to adopt this precious boy will never be bored or have a dull moment with him.

Sawyer has the best little personality and NEVER meets a stranger! Everyone is his friend no matter how young or old!

BIO:  Sawyer came from South Carolina when he was surrendered to us because the owner had gotten him to be a companion for their dog, and unfortunately, their dog picked on Sawyer so it was best to re-home him.

This little guy is a hoot; all he wants to do is play, play, and play!  But his foster mom doesn't have any dogs that want to play with him, so he has to play by himself with toys or sleep on his foster mom's lap, but he sure is getting bored. But right now, we know he's just a sweet puppy looking for a family to love him because he has a lot of love to give!

If you do not have experience with a deaf dog, please consider scrolling past him. Deaf dogs require patience and possibly someone to teach them sign language and visual cues.

Our must-haves for sweet Sawyer include:

  • Someone who has experience with deaf dogs is preferred
  • Another small, young dog for him to play with
  • No apartments, condos, or high-rises
  • A fenced yard that is attached to your home is a must, he loves dragging his toys outside to play with in the yard
  • Someone who is home quite a bit as he does like to hang out with his humans too

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
