Hello my name is Peanut!
I’ve lost my home and even though I like my foster home, I really want a forever home that will love me as much as I love them. Like most doxies, I love to sleep under blankets and in your lap.I crave lots of attention and would do best where I can be the center of attention in a one dog house hold, but I do get along with others just fine too. I bond strongly to my humans and will follow them like a shadow. I know I’m strong and healthy and current on all my shots and heartworm negative! I am a young dog and still have lots of years left to give all my love to someone who will love me in return. Would you grant me my fondest wish and give me the forever home I crave?
Peanut is owner surrender; her owner was elderly and could no longer take care of her. Peanut is a wonderful, wonderful girl! She is friendly and tends to bond strongly to her humans and is very loyal accepting of affection from her humans. She gets along very well with other dogs and cats and likes to play chase sometimes with her house mates. She loves to give kisses and wants to be the center of attention; she will do well as an only dog or in a home with other dogs that are not overly dominate. She is crate trained and has no problem sleeping there all day while her humans are at work. She loves to snuggle in your lap and would rather do that than just about anything else in the world except eat maybe. She likes to sleep in the big bed and does so through the night, but will also sleep in a crate or on her own bed. She likes to bark when someone comes to visit, but just to make sure that you know that you have company.
Peanut has some skin allergies and due to neglect of care for the allergies in the past, has thin hair on her chest and tail.We give her a Benadryl every night with her food to keep her allergies in check. Her skin has been checked by the vet and is clear from any type of disease. Peanut sees her crate as a safe place to go when she is eating, nervous, or enjoying a chew treat and may snap at someone who scares her by reaching into her crate; she happily comes out of the crate when she feels safe and is done eating. She has never snapped at anyone when outside her crate, not even while eating. Peanut is spayed, intestinal worm free, heartworm free, current on all her shots, house trained, and crate trained.
If you're looking for a loving, affectionate, loyal, beautiful girl, Peanut is the one for you!
More about Peanut
Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
