Anna came from NC when a breeder decided to retire her. When she first came to us, she was very scared but since she’s been with us for a while she has opened up and is learning to trust the people in her foster home. With that being said, when she goes to her furever home she will need to learn to trust you so patience will be key. She will need help with leash and housebreaking skills so again the key word is patience. Don’t just adopt her because you like her color and have always wanted a cream long hair; adopt her because you want to help her to learn to be a pet. Remember the ones you work the hardest to help are the ones that get all your heart and you get their loyalty.
We are going to be very selective about where she goes so these are the requirements that we need from her adopter:
- A fenced yard
- Another small, adult, well-socialize dogfor her to learn from
- No apartments, high-rises, or condo’s
- Someone who is home a lot to help her with housebreaking
- Someone with patience
- Experience with a puppymill or breeder dog will help
If you are willing to give her some time to learn to trust you, love you, and become a pet then you’ll have the sweetest little girl in the world! Just remember that it won't be happy everafter at first, it will take time and patience.
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
