Maggie came from a breeder in North Carolina who had decided to retire her. When she came to us she was very timid but now that we’ve had her almost a month, she’s doing very well and we can pick her up. But, she will need to learn to trust her new family so please do not want to adopt her only because she is a long hair cream with a pretty face. Adopt her because you want to have a very loyal companion with some work on your part. Remember... all she’s been is a breeding dog so now she has to learn to be a pet! She will need you to be patient with her while she learns what a leash is, what it’s like to live in a house, how to potty outside, and that it's okay to sit on the couch with you while you watch TV. Can you do that?
Our must haves for beautiful Maggie include:
- A fenced yard
- No apartment, high-rises, or condo’s
- Another young/adult well-socialized dog for her to learn from, no big dogs
- Someone who has the patience and has had breeder or puppymill dogs before
If you can check all these requirements, have no young children or grandchildren, and have patience, patience patience, then please fill out our online adoption application. I can assure you that if you do and you are approved to adopt her, it’ll be the best decision you’ll ever make!
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
