BIO:
A Good Samaritan saved Shikoba. She was in the middle of a busy intersection in Central CA all by herself running around in circles- the lady stopped her car in traffic, got out and rescued Shikoba from certain death. Thank GOD for her.
Shikoba is a wonderful girl. Very young and full of energy. She romps, plays, and runs full speed in the back yard. Don’t anybody tell her she’s blind. Shikoba has no idea that she is; different from any other dog, as she was born that way. She knows her way around the house and yard and learned very quickly. When she wants to get her bearings- she will raise her head in the air like a coyote and sniff, sniff sniff. She plays with her foster brothers and sister just like any other young dog does- she rolls around and wrestles around with them. She is a fabulous lap dog, she loves to be stroked under her chin, and get belly rubs. She is very easy to be with. She knows where the door is and seems to be completely potty trained as well. She sleeps through the night and has never had a potty accident in the house.
Shikoba LOVES to be LOVED on, and wants to find her special person to fall in love with. Can Shikoba come and love you furever?
Dapple is a pattern seen in Dachshunds. It is also commonly referred to as "Merle".
Now here come the genetics: When breeding, for reasons unknown, the combination of two dapple genes can be lethal. Double dapple puppies can be born with no eyes, and/or no ears. Blindness and/or deafness is also caused by the double dapple gene. They can be born sterile, or with impaired sperm production. We see alot of these dogs, usually they can't see or hear. Often they're born with underdeveloped eyes, and occasionally without eyes at all. (The eye socket is there, just no eye) Actually most of these poor babies come from what's referred to as 'backyard' breeders. People who have a dog that they "just love!", and decide they want to have a litter- mistakenly believing that what they're going to get is a litter of clones of their precious dog. They have no idea what they are doing, or the pedigree history of who they're breeding their dog to. And they're SO SURPRISED when they suddenly have puppies that aren't at all like their dog, and, even worse- are blind, deaf, and in many cases disfigured. They don't know what to do with them, so they get dropped at shelters or abandoned on the side of the road, or -???
