BIO:  Looking for a Florida adopter!

Have you been looking for the friendliest doxie ever?!? Well, meet Riley. He’s your man... without a doubt the sweetest and friendliest doxie I’ve ever fostered! He is very laid back, not a barker, and a sheer delight! Riley’s story is a little different from most. His owner (who obviously kept him well socialized) was moving from a house in South Carolina to an apartment where they couldn’t have a pet. Riley was offered to the family buying the home in SC. That family was happy to take Riley, but their cat was not pleased with that idea! The cat did not want a dog in the home, so dear Riley came into rescue. Riley has been fully vetted including a dental. He did lose 11 teeth including his upper canines. No worries, we just soften his kibble and add a tablespoon of canned food. He’s eating like a champ. Riley is GORGEOUS, his fan tail is SPECTACULAR!

Our MUST HAVES for Riley:

  • A fenced yard where he can sniff and explore for critters
  • An adopter in FL since Riley has already had two long transports
  • Someone who is home a lot because he LOVES to be with his person
  • Riley can be an only dog although he gets along well with his foster siblings (male and female)
  • No apartments or high-rises, he deserves a fenced yard securely attached to the home

Long hair doxies get adopted quickly, so if you are interested in Riley, fill out an application ASAP. Then you can contact his foster mom with any questions about this wonderful pup. He has only been in his foster home for a short time, so his bio will be updated as he settles in. Oh, Riley, does have one “quirk”... he enjoys sucking on his blanket or dog bed, sort of like a young child needing a pacifier! Did I mention Riley is a WONDERFUL doxie?!? You won’t regret adopting this boy!!!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the  Adoption Information  on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
