Sebastian was found as a stray in Arkansas and has travelled to Virginia to await his forever home! Sebastian is very sweet and VERY submissive. He is very good on the leash but is shy and hesitant around strangers and large groups of people. We have been working on this with trips to petsmart, the park, etc. and he is slowly getting better. He does great with lots of praise and positive reinforcement. He is scared of loud noises so he would do best in a home without children. As he has learned to trust me, he has turned into a cuddle bug and a lap hog! At night he prefers to sleep cuddled up with his human and his dogs. When we go outside for some sun, he likes to collapse into my lap and roll and wiggle around on his back. He gets along great with all of the dogs and loves to run and play! If the dogs are busy, then Sebastian will find a bug to chase and play with. He is wonderful in a crate and will make no noise at all or quiet down quickly. When I leave for work, he and the peanut butter filled kong go straight into the crate without a peep! He has the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen in a dachshund! Sebastian is a wonderful dog and would make a great addition to any family!
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
