BIO: This four-year-old cutie pie is Levi. What a charmer and oh so tiny, too! Levi was surrendered with four other dachshunds by a breeder who was retiring some of her doxies. Levi has always been with other dogs so we really want him to have another young small dog to hang with and learn from. Levi is very, very sweet, though he will need an adopter familiar with breeder dogs. A doxie savvy family must be prepared to continue to work with Levi on his house-training. Levi is making good strides, but is NOT fully house-broken and he does not like being crated!
Levi had a dental in early June and lost all his teeth except for his two lower canines. Unfortunately, the gum flap repairs where his upper canines were removed did not heal fully. He is scheduled for another gum flap revision on July 13th. He should be ready for adoption in early August, or sooner if you are near Sarasota. He will need soft food for the rest of his life. Levi seems to have a sensitive stomach so he is now eating Purina Pro Plan for Sensitive Stomachs (kibble) that his foster mom softens by soaking with water and a teaspoon of canned food. He gobbles it all right down at mealtime!
Our MUST HAVES for Levi include:
- A securely fenced yard attached to the home.
- No apartments or high-rises.
- Someone who is home a lot to help with his house-training.
- Another young small dog for Levi to learn from and cuddle with.
- An adopter in Florida or close to FL so he doesn’t have to go on another long transport.
Levi may be a challenge, but he's oh so worth it! He is a delightful little boy who loves people and other dogs. Are you ready to help him become a cherished pet now that he is no longer a breeding machine? Please fill out an application today and then contact his foster mom for more info on this adorable little guy.
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
