BIO: Hello! My name is Scooter! I am a beautiful black and tan dilute, although looking at me I look almost all black. They keep telling me I am “YOU NEEK” and “RARE”. I don’t remember my parents much but I think they were both bigger like me and black and tan. People are always in awe of my beauty, but I am full of personality too! I am a calm, loving dog that is always in search of the warmest lap and a long pet session. Some of my favorite things to do are play fetch, although I am just now learning that if I drop the ball or toy, it makes it easier, I love long walks, getting wet in a pool, yummy bones and I love going for rides in the caras long as I don’t have to get into a crate! I get a little lonesome if I am left alone for too long, but I don't generally bark a whole lot, and I welcome new people that come to the house with a cold nose on the foot and happy circle chase!
Scooter is such a sweetheart that will bring happiness to a wonderful family. He loves to dig and sleep under the covers, and gets along great with other dogs. He isn't super cat friendly, so I would use caution if cats are present. He loves to eat and if you say treat he goes wild! In general Scooter is a calm dog but would do best in a home with older kids. He is an adaptable dog, if you want to have an adventurous day he's always willing and ready, and if you just want to relax on the sofa or outside in a lounge chair he'll be by your side happy as a clam.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
