BIO UPDATE:  Poncho is a teddy bear!

Poncho wants you to know that his favorite things include going for a ride, following foster mom any where she goes, cuddling on the sofa, wiggling on the bed to scratch his back and blankets - but not necessarily in that order.  He loves to cuddle with any of his foster siblings that will let him.  Poncho says he wants a stay at home mom but a stay at home dad is ok too!  Even better, he gets both!  He also wants you to know that he is doing great with house training, as long as he is taken out on a schedule. 

BIO:  How could my family do this to me? I was loyal to them, why me??  Don't they know I loved them with my whole heart and then they dumped me!

Poncho was one of the dogs who were dumped in Williamson County Tennessee.  Left alone with no way to defend himself, luckily a Good Samaritan took him to the shelter and they in turn contacted us.  Poncho's list includes:

• Needs a fenced yard
• Another dachshund or smaller older dog to buddy with (male or female, doesn’t matter)
• No apartments
• Someone to make his last years better than his first 12 years

Poncho doesn’t act like a 12 year old!  He likes to be with his people so it would be a plus if you are home a lot.  He also likes to hang out with other smaller dogs and can be seen laying with them in a doggie bed.  He has no teeth left after his dental so no high dental bills for this guy!!

If you are looking for a dog to rescue and feel good about it, then think about Poncho... he will be happy to keep you company on the couch, in the big bed, and in the fenced yard.  Please help him find his last forever home.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
