BIO:  Cooper is a beautiful black and tan dapple Doxie that has only been with his foster family three days.  We are still getting to know him but so far he is adjusting very nicely.  Cooper is getting along great with his foster siblings, both male and female.  So far, he appears to be potty trained and is a very sweet dog that just wants to be by your side or in your lap all the time.  Cooper has a beautiful long soft coat.  He’s been on 2 walks so far and does just fine walking on a leash.  It doesn’t appear that he has been walked much in his past, but his foster mom will be walking him regularly.  Cooper seems a little shy but it’s probably because he’s in new surroundings.  He has slept quietly all night in a crate by our big bed every night since he’s been here.

One very important thing a potential adopter needs to know about Cooper is that he is EXTREMELY allergic to vaccines and cannot have them.  He comes with a letter from the vet stating he CANNOT be vaccinated.  He has been tested for all the things vaccines prevent, (e.g., rabies, distemper, parvo, etc.) and is negative.  He can, and must have heart worm prevention and flea control like any other dog.

There are two important requirements regarding Cooper's new family:

  • there should be no small children, only children over twelve, and
  • they must have another laid-back pup to be Cooper’s buddy.

Cooper is sweet, beautiful, well-behaved, potty trained and healthy... what more could you ask for???

If you are interested in adopting sweet Cooper, you better fill out an application fast because I doubt he will be available long!  If this little one does happen to still be here in a couple of weeks, his foster mom will be updating his bio when she gets to know him a bit better.

More about Cooper in NC

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Requires a yard, Leashtrained, Cratetrained, Affectionate, Needs a companion animal

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
