BIO (9/19/2019): Delilah came from a high kill shelter in NC after she was turned in by her owner. Here is what we know about this sweet girl:
Very sweet but a little shy at first meet
Gets along with all other dogs
Loves lap time
Gentle soul
We can’t understand why Delilah was surrendered by her owner because she has the kindest eyes and gentle ways. We do know she was fed off the table because she begs for human food. We’ve been working with her to stop this behavior. She takes her time eating her kibble so she was free fed and was allowed to eat all day long.
Delilah may have a little bit of another breed in her, possibly, but she’s all Dachshund especially when it comes to burrowing under the covers and wanting to be with her people.
She has started to play with toys at her foster home but we don’t know if Delilah would play with a younger dog because her foster mom has only older dogs at her home.
Delilah enjoys being outside in the fenced yard and then likes to sleep on the couch when the house has settled down for the night.
If you’d like more info on Delilah, please contact her foster mom for more information. Don’t let this girl slip away!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
