MEET BAKARI..... He came to us from a shelter in southern AL. We aren't sure if he was an owner turn in or a stray, what we do know is that he was heartworm positive and has successfully completed treatment!!!! What a celebration that would be if you could be the home for this sweet boy.
This little lad is such a gentleman. He is almost dignified for one so young. He usually obeys the first time, doesn't mind bath time, does well in the car, loves being brushed, is fine in his kennel, plays well with others and isn't one to bark much. He doesn't like getting his nails trimmed, although he will tolerate it, and is very protective of his food and chew toy. He uses the doggie door and I'll often look up and discover he's outside sunning himself. He doesn't demand constant attention, but does enjoy a good tummy and neck scratching. He makes me laugh because now he will nudge my hand for more whenever I stop. He is fine with older respectful children. Both of my dogs are females, which is working out great. However he has been around male dogs and done fine with them. He does use a doggie door and is crate-trained. He has not been around cats so we are not sure how he would do with one.
He likes to scuffle and play throughout the day with my dogs, so I'm sure he would be happy to have a companion. Bakari has been a very sweet addition to my household and I know will make a wonderful new member for his adoptive family. If you think you can give this boy the home he deserves please fill out that app today. Foster mom will answer any questions you have.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
More about BAKARI...TN
Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
