This girl is very shy and will take some time to warm up to her new family. She is doing better and better each day but whomever adopts her will have to be patient but the wait will be well worth it as she is not just sweet but beautiful as well. VANNA also will do best with a fenced in yard and a doggie door as she is not leash trained. She does fine in a crate. We think she would be fine with other dogs or cats but no children and maybe best for a retired couple that has a quiet home with not a lot of visitors. AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
