TACO is being treated for heartworms and so far he is doing very well. He came to us very thin so we are working on keeping him quiet and putting some much needed weight on him. He is a very very sweet boy that's just a little hand shy at first but is fine after he knows you aren't going to hurt him. He should be ready to go to his new home somewhere around the 1st part of June when we've checked to make sure he has no more of those nasty heartworms. Of course he will have to stay on heartworm prevention for the rest of his life to make sure he doesn't come down with those nasty things again. Dogs should be kept on them year round that prevents having to have them tested every spring.
TACO is not aggressive to any dog, male or female and really likes to just sleep in the doggie bed or lay with you on the couch. He does appear to be housetrained at least to a doggie door. Since he came from LA we are sure he was one of the survivors of hurricane Katrina. Now he just needs a nice home and maybe a playmate so he won't have to go thru that again. If you are interested in TACO and would like to make him a member of your family please go online and fill out our adoption application.
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle.
More about TACO....FL
Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
