SANFORD was an owner surrender due to a move and he couldn't go. He likes kids but is very very shy so will needs lots of time to warm up, once he does that he's your buddy for life and won't leave your side. No cats and because he is so shy and warms up so slowly we would say no little kids under 8 yrs. He's not real fond of a lot of dogs so either as an only dog or one other would be fine. He does need a fenced in yard but walks ok on a leash. He was used to living in an apartment and is not a big barker. He does like to sleep in the big bed, again he wants to be right with you at all times. What he needs is to be taken around a lot of people at different times. Needs to be socialized. He does apprear to be housebroken and will use the doggie door. He is UTD on all shots and heartworm negative and on Interceptor and Frontline. If you are interested in SANFORD please go online to www.ssdr.org and fill out an online application we will be in touch shortly about an interview and a homevisit.
Out of state and Canidian adoptions are welcome, we have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible. A home visit is required. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interested in a rescue.
More about SANFORD....GA
Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
