Horace Holly and Horace were born on December 1 to Bella(already adopted), a pretty and petite smooth red dachsie. Mom is so little that babies were born by C-Section. The expense and time involved in getting these little ones delivered brought Bella into rescue just five days before they were born. They are six weeks old and will be ready to go to their new homes as soon as they get their second set of shots at nine weeks. Horace is not going to be a mini – he’s a stockier little guy. He has some blonde in his coat. Horace is the “laid back” one. He loves belly rubs and cuddles. When his sister is being demanding, Horace will just sit there and patiently watch. Holly and Horace already toddle over to their pads at potty time. They don’t always make it but they have the idea. Being in a new home will be confusing and it will take them a while to figure out the potty rules. It will be a while before they are old enough to “hold it.” We’ll send along some training suggestions. This little boy is looking for a lifelong home with people who will love him, patiently teach him manners and make him part of the family. I’d prefer he go where there are no small children unless it’s a very experienced dachshund family. Horace will come with his own blankie, his blue elephant and delightful puppy breath. Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have other obligations so please let your references and vet know that we will be calling to vai all info that you put on your application. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.

Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
