Hi my names is Hiker an I was found Hiking down a busy road. I am maybe a year an half old an I just had heart worm treatment an will not be ready to go home for about a month but I love to play an cuddle an I am learning house training very quickly. I will go to the crate when mom says "kennel up". I know that means she is going to work an we all get a raw hide an a mile bone. I was very skinny when I first came here but they feed me really good an I am starting to look great, my foster mom says she almost can not see my ribs anymore. I would be great with other dogs and cats. I love children, well mom says its night night time so I am going to bed but if you like me just tell my foster mom an she will tell you all about me, Hiker.
Hiker has gone thru heartworm treatment and has to have one more oral treatment in about 2 more weeks(March 1st) but after that I'll be ready to go to my forever home. I am UTD on all shots and on Frontline. If you would like me to be a member of your family please go online to www.ssdr.org and fill out an online application and be sure to put my name on the app.
Out of state adoptions are welcome and a home visit is required. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost off to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interested in a rescue.
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
