They also had lost most of their hair due to a thyroid condition. They have grown most of it back except for their tails and ears but they look so much much better. To see them when they came in would have made you cry but with thyroid meds and tender loving care they are looking wonderful and are so so outgoing and spunky. FRANKIE lost most of her teeth due to poor nutrition but she eats softened food just fine and eats like a little pig. They both are potty-trained to newspaper and we'd like to see them go to someone with a doggie door as they are used to going out themselves and if you didn't have one then you'd have to take them out and teach them to let you know when they needed to go. These two girls are precious and deserve the best since they've had the worse and we still don't know how they managed to live seeing the condition they came in. Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
