DIXIE LU was an owner surrender from a very caring person that wanted us to find her a good home where she would be well cared for and where someone would have more time for her. DIXIE LU will be going this week for all her shots and to be spayed and a possible dental if needed. She is a little stubborn in the house breaking area but with some work we think she'll get it. She does appear to be the ALPHA so it would be better for her to go to a home with males. She DOES NOT like CATS and older children over 12 yrs is best. If you think you can give this pretty girl a great home then let us hear from you. Oh by the way her pictures don't do her justice she has a BEAUTIFUL face. WE WILL NOT SHIP OUR DOGS BY PLANE IF WE CAN'T DO A GROUND TRANSPORT THEN YOU'LL HAVE TO FLY TO THE STATE THAT THEY ARE BEING FOSTERED IN TO PICK THEM UP. TOO MANY THINGS HAPPEN TO DOGS IN CARGO....... Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have other obligations so please let your references and vet know that we will be calling to vai all info that you put on your application. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.
More about DIXIE LU...TN
Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
