DACHSHUND ................................PURE/TWEENIE COAT................................................SMOOTH COLOR............................................RED AGE..................................................4 YRS WEIGHT..........................................20 lbs + CONTACT prayzpaws@yahoo.com ADOPTION FEE............................150.00+10.00 CHIP FEE ...CHARLIE IS SPECIAL NEEDS DUE TO NEEDING MEDS DAILY. "Charlie is an approximately 4 yr. old, big, lovable, smooth haired, red dachshund. He was turned into the local animal shelter because his elderly owner could no longer take care of him. He cried for several days at the shelter but when placed in foster care adjusted wonderfully and now enjoys playing with his foster brother and doesn’t even mind the family cat. Charlie was very overweight when he entered foster care but has since lost a good amount of weight. It has also been determined that his weight problem was due to a thyroid condition that was not treated while he lived with his elderly owner. He is on daily medication which is not expensive and will need to continue taking this medication indefinitely. Charlie has the brightest personality and loves attention. He loves to try to catch the birds and squirrels that frequent the yard. He is used to being able to run and a fenced in yard is recommended. He is housebroken and will go to the door to let you know he needs to go out. He gets along great with the 5 yr. old in the family but older children are recommended as he has spent his entire life with only an elderly owner. Charlie does bark outside when he sees people on the street or hears their voices. He doesn’t bark excessively but if barking is a problem for you at all, then please consider adopting one of our other wonderful dogs. If you would like additional information about Charlie, contact the foster mom at prayzpaws@yahoo.com."

Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
