Being fostered in Goodlettsville, TN

ARTY came from a MS puppymill that dropped several dogs off at the animal control. We don't know why and they left no information with them. They couldn't have been too bad since at least these dogs were not heartworm positive but all needed dentals. These dogs are all between 3-6 yrs. Very sweet dogs but ARTY was scared and not socialized. He will need to be taken out to meet people and get used to people being around. We think that they are young and they are already starting to show signs of coming out of their shell but still have a ways to go. It has helped for him to be with other dachshunds to learn to trust and how to be a normal dachshund. ARTY will need a fenced in yard so he can go outside and enjoy his new found freedom. He will need work on potty issues but again once he learns to trust he can be bribed with treats to potty outside. Please find it in your heart to give ARTY a lasting forever home. We have found that dogs like Arty continue to improve as they meet more people they can learn to trust. We have seen dogs become "new dogs" in loving, patient homes.

IF YOU CAN'T HELP ARTY WITH SOCIAL SKILLS AND HOUSE TRAINING, THEN HE'S NOT THE ONE FOR YOU. THIS DOG IS GOING TO TAKE 6 MOS TO A YEAR TO ADJUST TO YOU AND YOUR HOME AND BECOME A NORMAL DOG. BUT IF YOU LIKE THE CHALLENGE AND WANT TO SEE WHAT LOVE CAN DO, THEN THIS IS THE DOG FOR YOU!! He will pay you back with love and devotion.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
