BIO (6/30/2019) Cora is very young.  She MUST have a fenced in area to play and potty.  She also seems to have some separation anxiety even while left alone with other dogs.  For this reason she needs an adopter who is home a lot and another young dog to play with and help with socialization.

(6/17/2019):  Cora came from middle Alabama along with 5 other Dachshunds when the breeder could no longer care for them. 

Cora is the sweetest pup and is such a happy girl!  She has really warmed up in her foster home.  She is very loving with kisses and tail wags and is always excited to play.  We have found that Cora LOVES toys and keeps herself entertained for hours.  She loves wandering around a fenced yard, sniffing and digging (pure dachshund style) and looking for bugs and butterflies to chase.  She needs to be near you and will follow you around like a little shadow but is also independent in going outside (doggie door) when she needs to use the bathroom.  She does not like being on furniture and will take some time warming up to that idea, but when you sit on the floor, her favorite place is on your lap.

Cora is very submissive with other dogs and has not so much as barked at her grumpy older foster sisters.  The beauty is Cora was socialized, not like a lot of breeder dogs.  When she is relaxed you can see her puppy come out and watch her do the two-step with her front feet when she gets excited for a treat. She is very interested in noises and tilts her head back and forth, adorably, trying to understand.  Cora is very smart and shouldn’t be hard to train.

When you first meet her, Cora is timid but she warms up quickly.  She isn’t a fan of being held while you are standing but this might be because she isn’t used to it.  Cora will not take much to integrate into your family as she only wants to please you; the only thing that will really have to be worked on is her telling you when she has to go potty.  That will require a strict schedule and would need to be accomplished by being home a lot with her or crating her when you leave. 

Cora is the best little pup and would make a great addition to your home!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
