BIO UPDATE (5/14/2019):  If you are looking for a happy little guy who just wants to be part of the family, Charlie could be your guy!  The number one thing you can say about Charlie is that he is happy!  He has been through a lot in his short life and just seems very happy to be in a home and with his humans rather than left outside.  Charlie is very smart and acclimated to our routine very quickly.  We take him for walks with 2 of our dogs and he is in heaven!

Charlie is a burrower and would love to sleep in the big bed with his humans.  He is very playful and would love another dog to pal around with.  This little man likes to bury his bones outside in the yard (check-out my video!).  He is pretty good at it too!  If another dog gets too close, he will run over and dig it up to rebury it in a “safer” spot.  We have a doggy door, but even so, his potty habits are not perfect.  Especially during rainy days.  Otherwise, he is a lover, a lap dog, playful and smart!  Charlie is definitely a keeper!

BIO:   Charlie came from East Tennessee where he was adopted out by a shelter and two years later returned because he was flea infested to the point that he had no fur.  The owners stated they could not care for him any longer.  They had kept him outside and that’s why he was covered in fleas.  The shelter contacted us and we agreed to take Charlie because we wanted to get him treated for a flea allergy and find him the right home.  Charlie so richly deserves one because he’s one special pup.

Yes, he’s a Chiweenie, but you’d never know it.  He acts like a Dachshund through and through.  You will need to check any blankets before you lay down or sit down because Charlie is likely under them sleeping away.

Now don’t think Charlie is a couch potato because he isn’t.  He LOVES to play with other dogs and needs another younger dog or even a cat to play with, he gets long with both.

Charlie is accustomed to using a doggie door so you’d need to put him on a schedule until you and he figure out which schedule works best for the both of you.  He will need to be kept on flea prevention year-round (along with heartworm prevention) because he has an allergy to the flea bites.

Please consider giving Charlie a forever home.  He really deserves it after the miserable start he had in life.  Please make the rest of his life happy!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
