BIO (4/20/2019):  Dee Dee came to rescue from middle TN when her owner could no longer care for her.  She is a sweet girl who loves to meet new people.  When you pick her up, she wags her tail and will give friendly little kisses on your chin.  She loves to go for walks and enjoys sitting in a lap or snoozing in her dog bed.  She is the perfect blend of enthusiasm and relaxation.  She would love a fenced yard to run and explore, but would be fine with frequent walks and trips to a dog park.

Dee Dee gets along well with other dogs, but does not like to share toys.  As long as there are no toys around or the other dog is not interested, she is friendly.  She also does not like to share food.  When Dee Dee first meets dogs on walks she barks and acts fierce, but once they greet each other she is fine.  She was introduced to some cats and was not very interested in them, so she would be okay with a cat in the house.

Dee Dee is more interested in people than other dogs, so would be perfectly happy as an only dog.  She often follows foster mom around the house.  She is friendly and would be fine with children who are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with her.

Dee Dee is housebroken.  She goes out first thing in the morning, when foster mom gets home from work, and before bed.  During the day she stays in a dog friendly area of the house and will use a pee pad if needed.  At night she sleeps quietly in her crate, but would love to sleep with her people.

If you are looking for a sweet little walking buddy and lap warmer, Dee Dee is the girl for you!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
