BIO (2/27/2019):  Coco came to me from Alabama needing emergency back surgery due to IVDD.  She had surgery and has made almost a full recovery with a very strict physical therapy regimen, laser therapy, and acupuncture.  She will be having a full dental cleaning prior to adoption.

Coco loves to howl along to the radio!  What a cutie!  Despite her rough start and medical issue, she now loves to cuddle and plays just like your typical dachshund.  Through her recovery, she has never slowed down.  Coco is in a home with both large and small dogs, but because of her surgery and recovery, she has not spent a lot of time with them or the cat but has shown zero aggression.  We have slowly started introducing her to the other dachshunds in the house and she has done very well.

Coco loves every person she meets wholeheartedly but has not been around small children - a home with small children may not be in her best interest due to the potential to injure her back.  Coco would make an amazing addition to any family willing to help her thrive!

More about Coco in IL

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Leashtrained, Cratetrained, Playful, Affectionate

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
