BIO (1/20/2018):  Sassy has lots of puppy energy and She needs another young dog to play with in the household, a fenced yard, and someone home to help with house training. We are looking for a home in the South... no further north then Atlanta due to her thin coat and likelihood of developing Alopecia later in her life.

Sassy was an owner surrender. The family was moving and could not take her with them. From what we were told, she seems to have been well taken care of. Sassy is a very tiny mini-dachshund and is just precious! She is a blue and tan coat (mostly grey) and this kind of coat is typically very thin. Because of her thin coat, she must go to a home in Atlanta or anywhere south of there; she would not do well in a colder climate.

Sassy is being fostered in a home with 4 other dachshunds (both male and female) and plays nicely with all her foster siblings. She just got to her foster home yesterday (January 19th) so I will update her bio as I learn more about her. Her first night she slept in a crate by my bed with one of her foster siblings. She whined for about 5 minutes and then slept quietly all night. I’d say that’s pretty good for a first night in a strange place! Sassy is not potty trained yet, but I feel like she will learn fast, especially with treats every time she potties outside, and watching her foster siblings potty outside.

What I can tell you about Sassy so far is that she is in constant motion and loves to play with my other dogs. She was afraid the first half of the day when she got to her foster home, but was quickly running around playing chase with her foster siblings within several hours. Sassy is very tiny and needs to put on a little weight, but she’s a good little eater so it shouldn’t take long.

I must say this is one cute little puppy! She’s so sweet and deserves a wonderful, loving, safe home in the South. If you are interested in adopting her or have questions about her, feel free to email me.

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Playful

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
