BIO (10/17/2018):  What a GEM Sammy is!

He came from East TN along with another Dachshund when the family could no longer care for them.  Sammy’s teeth were so badly neglected that he has lost his top canines and most of his other teeth but with those gone he feels SO MUCH better and is a happy boy.

Sammy loves to be in the same room with you or out in your fenced yard.  He’s happy as a clam when you are chilling on the couch and he can lay with you and relax.  Don’t get us wrong, Sammy is not a slug, he’ll walk with you and keep up if you if you like to walk.  He might be distracted by the squirrels and birds but just nudge him and he’ll get back on track.

Sammy is very well housetrained and will go to the door or out the doggie door.  He sleeps all night on his foster mom’s bedroom floor on a doggie bed, but if you want a bed partner he’d be happy to do that for you too.

If you are newly retired or work from home, then Sammy would love to come to your home!  Our wish for him is someone home a lot, another dog to keep him company and a fenced yard.  If you fit the bill then please think about adopting him and giving him his last forever home.  He wants a home of his own badly!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
