BIO UPDATE (9/14/2018):  Clyde is coming into his own!  He loves playing outside and is always watching for those pesky chipmunks... they don't dare come into his backyard!  Clyde has also appointed himself to the neighborhood watch group, keeping a close eye on any activities he can see from the front porch.  Clyde is a wonderful companion and is anxious for his own family.  He'd love an older kid or two to play with him some, but he says that isn't a deal breaker.  He does insist on a fenced yard and he promises to keep any vermin out of it for you.  Don't let those frosted paws fool you, he can move like lightening when he chooses!  Clyde is a sweet boy, very affectionate especially upon awakening in the mornings.  This precious little soul will fill your heart and your home with dachshund love, it doesn't get any better than that!

BIO:  Hello, I’m Clyde, pleased to meet you!  Well, they call me Clyde, I went by another name months ago, before I got lost and had to fend for myself.  I’ve forgotten that name, and my life is so much better now.  A long time ago, I had someone who loved to hold me and play with me.  They loved me a little too much with food, so I got really round!  Then I lost my home and ended up in a scary place, and no one came for me and my mouth hurt and my foot hurt.  Just before I gave up, a nice lady came for me and took me to see a doggie doc, fixed my mouth and my foot, got me some good food and now, I feel like a new dachshund!

I’m looking for a forever home where I can play outside in a fenced yard, chase a few chipmunks, sleep on a soft bed, eat good food and snuggle with my very own human.  Are you looking for a great guy like me?

From Clyde’s foster mom:  Clyde was in sad shape when turned over to AADR.  Poor diet and oral care left him very obese and missing his upper canines.  He also had a tumor on his back-left foot.  AADR fixed his mouth, had the tumorous toe removed and got him on much needed thyroid medications (Soloxine and Apoquel) and proper nutrition (Hill’s Derm Defense).  He has lost about 4 pounds and his coat shines like a new coin!

Clyde is a great little snuggle bug and adores sitting on a porch or deck just watching the world go by.  He is very low key, not a nuisance barker and has great house manners.  Feed him well with a couple of small pills in his food, send him outside a few times a day and cuddle with him in the evenings...this is all he asks.  This boy is a keeper!

More about Clyde in VA

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Leashtrained, Cratetrained, Even-tempered

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
