BIO (8/3/2018):  My name is Amos, and I came into rescue with my brothers and sisters when my person hit a kind of a rough patch and could no longer keep us.  He took good care of us, as best he could, so I don’t have any fear or aggression issues like some rescue dogs have.  My Foster Mom (FM) says that I am sweet, gentle, and kind, and am confident (whatever that means), and that, except for a wee little climbing issue, I have good “house manners”.  The climbing issue has led to me being caught on the kitchen table a couple of times, which has led to scolding and use of the dreaded squirt bottle of water.  I may decide that I don’t like to climb, but until then, it would probably be smart to keep the kitchen table, really ALL tables, clear of anything edible.

I enjoy playing with my playful foster sister here, especially if a stuffed baby or bouncy ball is involved.  I will return the ball when it’s thrown, and will drop it about 50% of the time.  But my favorite thing to do is snuggle!  I will snuggle beside you, in your lap, in the bed, on the sofa, wherever I can find someone to share a snuggle with!  FM says that I become completely boneless whenever I snuggle; all I know is that it feels SO GOOD!

I will sleep all night in my crate if I have to, but really love the big bed (‘cause of that snuggling thing).  I also love to run, play and explore outside, so it I need a home with a fenced yard.  I could be an only dog, but would also do well with another dog, especially a playful, younger dog.

I have had a couple of poop accidents when I asked to go outside and no one noticed.  It really wasn’t my fault since the doggie door here is not being used, and I always go right in front of the door.  The people here are working on being more observant, and I am working on going outside.

If you want a gentle, loving little boy who will love you forever, then I'm your man. And my FM says I’m beautiful too!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
