BIO (7/18/2018):  This is Kilo who was rescued from a kill shelter with several other dachshunds, but AADR just couldn't leave him and his friend behind even though they are Maltese!

He was full of fleas when he came to the rescue and had to have his beautiful coat shaved completely off but it's growing back nicely.  He also had many teeth removed during his dental but it doesn't slow him down one bit... he acts very young for a 10 year old!

Kilo is an absolute sweetheart, very friendly and happy!  He has learned so many new things very fast, he's a super smart little guy.  He has gotten so good at going out the doggy door at his foster home that he gets full run of the house now.  He does have a little Houdini in him, several times when I have left he has managed to let himself out of his crate and will greet me at the door.

Kilo loves to snuggle and give kisses and gets along great with his foster brother and sister.  He also has a fun, puppy-like playful side and is hilarious to watch.  He can out walk anyone on a leash and meal time is his favorite time of all, and he has learned he must sit like a gentleman before he gets a treat now.

He has been very good to sleep quietly all through the night in his crate even if I sleep late.  He rarely barks and is totally laid back around the house.

He would do great in just about any home that would love him and let him snuggle with the family!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
