BIO:  Haylee came from Alabama where she was used for breeding.  She is very shy, although a sweet, sweet girl once she gets to know you.  Haylee needs understanding, patience and lots of attention and love.  You will need to go slowly with her and give her the opportunity to know you.  She likes a gentle touch, enjoys a lap, and loves to cuddle!  Haylee scares easily and will need quiet reassurance.  Haylee has become accustomed to her surroundings in her foster home and she has settled, but we are still very careful to double leash her and hang on tight to both leashes when she is outside and to be certain that she is always secure in our home before any doors to the outside are opened to keep her from slipping out.  Haylee is improving with her potty training, but this training will need to continue.  She gets along well with our dogs.

Do you have the understanding, patience, attention and love that Haylee needs and deserves?

More about Haylee in NY

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Timid, Gentle

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
