BIO: Hi guys, Archie here!  I’m looking for my FUR-ever home so here’s a little bit about me... I’m a 2-year-old, red, smooth-coat Chiweenie (that’s half chihuahua and half dachshund).  Despite my rough beginnings, I’m a happy, friendly pup who just loves to play.  Just a few weeks ago, I was left on the side of a country road in Tennessee but luckily I wandered up to a nice family and they brought me to AADR.  Ever since then, things are really looking up.

After a clean bill of health, I was transported to my foster mom’s house and now I have a soft lap to sit on, big blankets to sleep on, and I get to play with my foster brother all day.  I’m a great leash walker but my forever home should have a fenced yard.  My foster mom says I’m an absolute cutie who loves to snuggle and give tons of kisses.  She also says my coat is as soft as can be.  I love morning belly rubs and long walks.  I love to walk so much that I don’t even mind the cold, that fluffy white stuff on the ground is fun to roll in!  My foster mom says I’m almost house trained but by the look of her face I can tell I still make mistakes sometimes (sorry, but I’m new to this).  It would be great if someone in my new family worked from home or is home most of the time since I don’t like to be left alone too long.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
