BIO: Speck was dumped in a very rural shelter in middle Tennessee after her owners got tired of her and the other resident dog not getting along. They said she was jealous. This is probably a result of Speck being an alpha female and the other dog also being a female.
We believe Speck will be fine with a male or as an only dog. She also needs a family that is home a lot as she does have some separation anxiety. That means she can’t go to someone that lives in an apartment, townhouse or duplex. If you did have to leave for the day, it’s best to put her in a crate with a chewy because if left out she’ll try to see what mischief she can get into.
She needs a fenced in yard because she loves to follow you around outside and explore the yard while you are outside.
Speck does not sleep in the big bed with her foster family but she would LOVE it if you allowed her to do so. If you do not allow her to sleep with you, it will be necessary to gate her out of the bedroom which is what the foster family does. She whines a little at night at first but then settles down to sleep after that.
Please don’t let these few things scare you off. Speck is a wonderful pup and deserves a better home than what she had. You see, her previous owners would slap her face and head. This causes Speck to flinch if you are too quick with your hand movements around her face (poor baby). She loves attention and loves to lay in your lap while you are watching TV or reading a book. For long you are there…she’s right there with you. Loving her person, she will follow you from room to room.
Because of her coloring and that she is a Double Dapple, she won’t be available very long. Unlike many double dapples which may be deaf and/or blind, Speck can see and hear. However, she has to go to the right kind of home. If you do not meet the requirements listed here, please don’t apply.
