BIO:

This precious little doxie/cairn mix was rescued from a shelter in Memphis, TN and has the kindest heart you will find.  She is still adjusting to her foster home and seems to come out of her shell a little more each day.

Candy loves her crate and her doggy bed and has been so polite and quiet letting herself in and out the doggy door you forget she is there.  She seems to have had a rough previous life but is so gentle and kind and loves for anyone to talk to her, that tail never stops wagging!  Candy does prefer not having other dogs around but is starting to tolerate and ignore the other dogs in the home now that she knows they won't bother her.  She needs a home that will help build her confidence, love her, and gain her trust back.  She so wants to be loved.

Candy just had a haircut and with her wiry non-shedding coat, she looks just like Daisy in the new movie "Wonder"!!!  She is the perfect little no maintenance wire-haired girl!

Is Not Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Leashtrained, Cratetrained, Gentle

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
