Hi, my name is Wyatt! I’m a two-year-old long-haired dachshund with a ton of personality and energy! My foster family says I’m quite handsome too! I came from a shelter in North Carolina where I was dumped with my 7 siblings in a drop box. I was terrified but thankfully, the shelter contacted this place called a rescue and off I went to Tennessee and then to my foster family in Virginia where I’m staying now. My foster mom says I’m a bundle of energy so I need to find a forever home that has another small, younger dog that likes to play. I LOVE chasing and being chased. I also bark but I’m told that if I take a long walk and run and play, I burn off a lot of energy and it seems to help with my barking. They’ve also been working on leash training me and I’m doing really good (I just took my first trip to PetSmart!) but I still need practice, but my foster mom told me she was really proud of me because I behaved really well. It’s also a must that I go to a home with a fenced yard and if I’m going out that I wear my harness and am leashed because I will run. My foster family doesn’t know why but I seem to get along with girl dogs, but not boy dogs and no cats for me.
Check out my videos!! If I must say so myself, I am quite the handsome guy!
If I sound like I might be a good fit for your family, please feel free to contact my foster mom and she’ll answer any questions you have about me.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
