BIO: Misty is a sweet little dog who had a bit of a rough start in life. She was left at a shelter in North Carolina with 7 other dogs. She is fearful at first and she needs someone who has lots of patience and is willing to work with her. She is very trusting once she gets to know you. She is house trained and has learned quickly how to walk with a harness and a leash. She must have a fenced yard and her harness and leash must be secure when she is outside of the fenced area since she is a flight risk. Misty is afraid of large dogs and she is sometimes skeptical of dogs her size. So, she would do best as an only dog. She thrives on attention and she loves a lap and to cuddle. She is also good in a crate for a short time when we are gone.
Misty is very cute, young, and has long hair; so, she will be adopted quickly! Can you provide Misty with the patience, training and love she deserves?

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
