Rascal is still waiting for you to make him YOURS!!!!

BIO:  Rascal came from Kentucky when his owners could no longer care for him and the family didn’t want him.  We can’t quite understand why no one would want this sweet boy!  He was anxious when he first came to us but since he’s been with us for a couple of weeks, he’s relaxed and let his true personality shine through.

What we can tell you is he is housebroken and likes to sleep either in your favorite chair or underneath the bed at night.  He gets along great with the other foster dogs and we have actually seen him playing with a 2-year-old Dachshund several times. We do think he would do better with a companion if you have to work, but if you are home most of the time then he’d be fine being an only dog.

When he came to us he had a flea allergy and a lot of fur was missing just in front of his tail but it’s coming back in now that we have him on a flea preventative.  Unfortunately, no one took care of his teeth.  The family did give him a dental earlier this year and he lost 16 teeth and sadly the vet didn’t try to do any gum flaps.  Therefore, he has some carnassial and canine fistulas that have healed but he still has holes where those teeth were pulled.  They do need to be watched and we are feeding soft food, but we believe that he can handle hard kibble.  He will have another dental before going to his new home and at that time we’ll see if anything can be done to repair the holes left by the pulled teeth.  It does not bother him and he’s doing very well without those 16 teeth.

If you are looking to give a senior a lasting forever, then please consider Rascal.  He will alert you when someone comes to the door but is not a big barker.

Long hairs do not last long on the website so set your sights and grab up this handsome boy before someone else does!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
