Mona came from Bowling Green, KY when her owners had to give her up due to health problems with the husband that the wife had to care for him and didn't have time for Mona. Mona is also on UD dog food to prevent bladder stones. The food cost a bit more than regular food and that is why we have lowered her adoption fee.
Mona: 5 yr. old. smooth red. Tends to have submissive peeing issues. These can be controlled if you wait for her to come to you rather than going toward her with the intention of picking her up. She is a very sweet little girl who gets along with all other dogs. She is just starting to really play with my Westie and the toys all over the house. She is a cuddler and wants to always be under a blanket, whether she is on the couch or in bed. She loves to run in the snow. She is better with women than men. She barks a lot at men and takes longer to warm up to them. She knows sit, stay, come, no, and basket (Mona and Tigger are both carried downstairs in a laundry basket. When it is time to go downstairs I hollar out "Basket" and they come running to jump into the laundry basket.) She caught on fast to that command so I know she is smart. She is not a big kisser/licker. She will give a few little kisses, but that's all and that was only after she'd been with me for a week. Mona does not eat out of her food bowl. She takes a mouthful, then runs into another room, drops all the food in her mouth, then eats it one piece at a time. She is not food aggressive. She is not aggressive in any way.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
