Lucy is an absolute sweetheart. She came into our home day one and instantly got along with Dubby (the dog who likes no one) and the whole gang. Not a bark or growl was to be had. I was surprised. She is the ultimate shadow. She will lie on your lap, and follow you whenever you get up. I would love to keep her, but I think she would be happier with someone who is home more (maybe retired) and wants to share his or her time with her. She greets me every morning with a cry to pick her up and say hi, and then goes to follow whoever is moving around. She only wants to be loved. She sleeps in her cage at night, the whole night, not one peep, or accident. She stays in it while we are at work just the same. She is 100% potty trained to our doggie door, maybe just give her a two day grace period to get acclimated to the new surroundings. She is doing very well considering she even goes out in the snow and ice, which is a great feat for a dog from Tennessee. She eats 2x/day and is not food aggressive, maybe a little pushy w/ her foster siblings, but not aggressive. Be careful though with treats, she has a chomp on her since 2 teeth are missing in front, the remaining ones can seem sharp, just give her treats in your palm and there is no problem. She even liked her bath and let me clip her nails for a few cookies. For a little old lady, she does like to play with her younger foster siblings. She also loves squeaky toys! I guess that is about it. Lucy is a well behaved, easy to have dog. The only thing she can be a pain with is wanting love and attention, so if you have that to give Lucy is the dog for you. Like I said, I would keep her myself if I thought I couldn’t find her a better home with more time to give.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
