Being fostered in Western NY .....
“My name is Trudee. Once I had a family, but somehow lost them. I was found alone and lonely on the street with my nails grown into the pads of my feet. I was taken to a scary place that smelled like lots of other dogs and cats – and fear. Now I am in a warm foster home and would very much like a home of my own again. I like other dogs, cats and children. I am happy walking on a leash or riding in a car. I also like to play with toys. My foster mom says I am a very young senior. Would you take me home and love me furever?”
Trudee is a joy to have in my home. She loves naps, either on a lap or under a blanket. She is losing the extra pound or so needed to regain her girlish figure. Trudee is not an “in-your-face” doxie. She enjoys being held, but does not give kisses. She will sleep at the foot of the bed under a blanket and you will never know she is there! She will potty outside if kept on a schedule, but will also use a potty pad in the house. Like most dachshunds, she does have the occasional accident, but overall is very good with her housetraining skills. Trudee is also crate trained. She is great with my 9, 7 and 3 year old grandchildren. Trudee is friendly, fairly quiet and surprisingly playful. She will not share her food and grumps at any animal that gets too close when she is eating. She has a small fistula in her mouth that leads to her sinuses. When she starts sneezing frequently, she needs to be put on an antibiotic to prevent sinus infections. If you have room in your heart for Trudee, she will be your most devoted friend.

More about TRUDEE...PA
Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
