BIO (Update 11/24/2017):  Beau is a sweet, sweet dog who has been misunderstood, and it is no fault of his own. It is his foster dad’s understanding that Beau was living a happy life with his family when they decided to get a new male terrier type puppy.  Evidently, Beau had never been socialized when he was young and did not get along with the new kid on the block. As in so many cases like this, the older dog was sent packing.

Beau does have a problem with other male dogs AND larger dogs of either sex.  He has gotten along well with the three mini dachshunds in his foster home, but they are all smaller than Beau.  Beau is improving with his social skills.  When on a leash he has learned to exercise restraint.

In his foster dad’s opinion, Beau would do best as an only dog to a retired couple or person who can give him a lot of love.  He enjoys nothing better than sitting in your lap and being loved.  Once in your lap, he can stay there all day long!!

Will you be that house that can give Beau the love and attention he craves?  Hoping you can give him that chance!

BIO: Beau needs a quiet home, no stairs, fenced yard with someone who will make his world whole. One other older female dog would be fine but not required. If you are looking for a companion, then Beau would be a wonderful family member. No jumping on and off furniture for him but he's happy laying in a doggie bed at your feet.

Beau came from a home in AL where he didn’t get along with the other dog so we feel that Beau would be much better as an only dog. He would be okay with others, but it would be best if he didn’t have to share the owner’s attention and he does love to be in your lap. To him, there is nothing better than to lay in your lap while you have your down time.

Beau is not really a barker, he will bark if someone comes in the door or if a car comes up, but that is about it. He is just a low-key kinda guy.

Beau would not do well with cats, birds, or rodents because of his prey drive.

He would enjoy a fenced yard, but this is not a must. If you’re looking for a low-key guy to come home to, then Beau’s your man. Don’t wait to apply because he won’t be around long with his great demeanor! And, he’s one handsome boy!

Good with Some Dogs (No large, male dogs), Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
