Roxy came to us as Sasha, but since we already had a Sasha, we looked at something else to call her. She seemed like a Roxy the Doxy to us. And she already knows this is her! She is a very personable girl and smart! She loves people, and wants to please. She can walk on a leash, and is crate trained. Although her house training is coming along well, she’s not reliable yet. She came to us with no idea at all, that she was supposed to “go” anywhere, but in the house. I believe she may have been trained to puppy pads, as she seeks out a rug or a bed, to potty on. But slowly it’s dawning on her to wait and go outside with the others. At first she didn’t know what to think of our walk time. But now she loves it! She is a beautiful standard type girl, who has had puppies in the past. She’s quite motherly, and cleans and licks the others. At first she was a bit food aggressive, but has slowly lost some of that. She does love dinner time though! I think she would be great as an only dog or as an addition to a family. She likes our children who are 10 and 13, and know how to be kind and respectful to dogs. This is a lovely girl, who could make a perfect addition to any family. There is much she is still learning about this new way of life. She is beginning to like outdoors, and feel confident when outside. At first just going outside was foreign for her. She loves making friends and is certainly interested in learning how to fit in. Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
