Hi, my name is Rusty and I am an active, young doxie. I love to play in the yard with my brothers and sisters and jump all around. I have all my shots and are neutered. I love to sit in mom's lap when she drinks her coffee in the morning. I am housebroken. I am very strong willed, I protect the people I love. I would be best in an adult only home. I need someone who knows about the doxie breed and training, since I would need someone with a strong alpha personality to make me remember I am not the boss all the time. I need to go on long walks to be able to meet people and bond with people better. My mom says I have "issues" with protecting my family, so I need someone very understanding. I love to give my owner kisses and have my belly rubbed. I bark when people come to the dog and also have to shown when to quit when necessary. In my previous life, I was outside on a chain and did not get any training, so I guess I am asking for someone that would train me in a positive way to be a good dog, because I am a bit timid and fearful when I first meet you. I really want to be able to love you but it takes me awhile to warm up to you. I hope you will consider me for adoption, so I can show you how smart and eager to learn I really am! Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
