BIO:

PeeWee is a friendly boy who was left at an animal shelter when his owner lost her job and could no longer care for him.  He was very thin, but with some good care and food he is getting back into shape.  He lost several teeth during his dental cleaning, but has no problem eating dry food that has been moistened a little.  His health is very good.

PeeWee enjoys going for walks and being outside.  He is also happy to sit inside and watch TV or take a nap.  He walks well on a leash.  PeeWee gets along well with other dogs and has been friendly with new people.  He has not been close to any cats, but ignores them when we are on walks, so he would probably be okay with a kitty friend.  He can be introduced to some cats if needed.

At night PeeWee hops into his dog bed and covers himself up with his blanket.  He would be very happy to sleep with his people too!  He is crate trained, but is so well-behaved that he hasn't been crated in his foster home.  He does well with his housetraining and will use a pee pad if left for extended periods.  He loves to be with his people and will make sure to be in the same room with you.  He is pretty quiet and usually only barks a little if another dog starts barking.  He did bark the first few times he was left at the house, but now knows that I'll be back and no longer worries.  He really is a sweet and charming little fellow!

If you are looking for a fun little addition to your household, PeeWee is the guy!  You can learn more and fill out an application at allamericandachshundrescue.org.

More about PeeWee in MD

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
